Newton County Relay for Life officials hit the ground running last week, setting a date for the 2006 event along with naming chairmen for several key posi– tions. Fund raising activities for the American Cancer Society spon– sored event will culminate on June 9 with Relay night to be held at track on the East Central Com– munity College Campus. Stevens said the event is sched– uled to begin with a survivors reception at 6 p.m. and opening ceremonies beginning at 7p.m. fol– lowed by the first lap and parade of teams led by the survivors in attendance. Numerous entertainment opportunities are planned around a festival atmosphere as teams make one fmal push to raise funds by selling food, offering games for kids and other activities.
