ECCC's Van Chancellor Named Top Alumnus DECATUR-Coacn Van Chancellor received a 2005 Outstanding Alumni Award last week from the American Association of Community Colleges. Chancellor, a Winston County native and 1963 gradu– ate of East Central Community College in Decatur, received the honor during the AACC Gala Dinner and Awards Presentation in Boston. Chancellor guided the USA Women's Team to a gold medal in the 2004 Olympics and has successfully led the Houston Comets of the WNBA since 1997, winning four championships. He also coached the Ole Miss Lady Rebels for 19 years, compiling an overall mark of 439-154losses, a .74 winning percentage. The AACC awards are presented annually to commu– nity 'junior college alumni "who are making outstand– ing contributions in their chosen career fields and to their communities."
