ECCC sweeps Holmes • Lady Warriors now 4-1 ; Warriors, 3-2 Special to The Record East Central Communi– ty College's basketball squads recorded their third "sweep" of the young campaign by taking a pair of contests at Holmes Community College Mon– day night in Goodman. The Lady Warriors - who were led by Lake product Valerie Harris' 22- point effort- cruised to a 72-60 win and the Warriors -behind Earnesto Green's season high 30 points - were victorious by a 91-82 margin. With the victories, ECCC's women impr;oved to 4-1 under second-year llead coach Billy Smith and the Warriors are now 3-2 under flrst-year head mentor Maurice Bowie. The Lady Warriors post– ed an 82-62 thumping over the Holmes women in the season opening contest for both squads earliest this month on the Decatur campus. Other Warrior point makers in addition to Green- a Provine product - were Bryan Johnson, also of Provine, 19; Mike Presendieu, of New Dimension HS in Orlando, 10; Craig Pruitt of Newton County, nine; and Jay Brooks M Provine, Bran– do.n Shelton of Newton, Marquis Wilson of Delhi, La.. and Darron Maxtion, a product of Sparkman HS in Harvest, Ala., six each. Richard Worthy of Can– ton pumped in 17 points for the Bulldogs, who fell to 4-1 after suffering their first loss of the 2006-07 campaign. Holmes clipped the Warriors 65-52 in the season opener. EC held a 48-40 advan· tage at the break. Both squads \vil.l conclude a four-game road schedule by traveling to East l\1issis– sippi Communi~ College on Thursday, Nov. 16. The Lady Warriors and War– riors resume action follow– ing the Thanksgiving holi· days by hosting Itawamba Community College squads on Monday, Nov. 27. The women's contest begins at 6 p.m. followed by men's action at 8 p.m.
