ECCC's final run of the sixth scored on a fielder's choice. "Once we got the lead a~ain, it was like (Southwest) gave up," Davis said. "Our pitching was there, and our defense backed him up. It was a pret– ty good game." Petty went 3-for-5 for the War– riors, and Cavenaugh, Coward and Van Wilson each had two hits. Barnes was the Southwest player to record multiple hits with two. GAMEl EC 2, Gulf Coast 0 East Central Community College's James Harris broke a scoreless game with a home run, and the Warriors pulled out a win on the frrst day of the Region XXIII Baseball Tournament. ECCC defeated the tournament's host team, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, 2-0 in a pitch– ing-dominated contest in the final of three games on Thursday. The Warriors and Bulldogs com– bined for just nine hits in the nine– inning game. ECCC starting pitcher Josh Miller, who recorded the win, gave up five hits with six strikeouts in the com– plete-game effort. Gulf Coast starter Miles Clark carried one hitter into the fifth inning, but after Harris' home run, the Bulldog hurler allowed four hits in nine innings. Clark had 16 strikeouts -striking out the last six hit– ten. he faced-in the loss. ECCC added its second run in the sixth innng off an RBI si ngle by Corey Coward that brought home Van Wilson. The Warriors recorded two hits in the sixth, the highest hit total in one inning by either team.
