entralized EC teams sweep EMCC East Central Community
Teurlings Catholic HS in Lafayette, La., pumped in 14 points to lead the East Central women who snapped a two– game skid to improve to 3-3 under first-year head mentor Billy Smith. Anderson of Newton, four each; Valerie Harris of Lake and Elyse Clay of Scott Cen– tral, two each; and Tamika Triplett of Sebastopol, one. Jennifer Jones of Starkville had 16 points to lead East Mis– sissippi, which fell to 3-4. East Central led 34-23 at halftime. The Lady Warriors also swept their season series with the Lady Lions, having earlier posted a 59-45 decision.
College's Warriors improved to 6-0 following an 82-70 victory and season sweep over long– time rival East Mississippi Community College, and the Lady Warriors held on for a 57- 51 win over the Lady Lions in non-division action held Thurs– day night at Keyes T. Currie Coliseum on the Scooba cam– pus. Freshman Sam Walton, a 6- 6 forward and former standout at Lanier High School in Jack– son, bad 18 points to lead the unbeaten Warriors unaer first– year head coach Stev~ Hamp– ton. Also scoring were Earnesto Green of Jackson Provine, Rodney Turner of Forest Hill and Johnny Hodge, a product of Quachita Parish HS in Mon– roe, La., 12 each; Ricardo Alcantar of Newton County, eight; Brian Johnson of Provine, seven; Coshune Bingham of Newton, six; Jacquas Jones of Forest, three; and Andre Coleman of Louisville and Paul Milligan of Chillicothe HS in Vernon, TX, two each. Cornelius Miles of Meridian had 20 points to lead EMCC, which fell to 3-3. The Warriors held a 36-27 advantage at the break.
