'The tir..t game is gomg to be important for us," said coach Terry Underwood as he enters his eighth season at the helm of the Wamors. "We've got a good group of play– ers out and I'm very optimistic about this season. We had a good ~pring and a very successful summer weaght program. But we need to get off to a good -.tart." The Warriors played Northwe~.t tough last year in a 14-12 loss. and got off to a 4- 2 ~tan. But mid-.ea!;on tnjuries to kc} per– sonnel proved costly in the end. The Warriors play in the tough South Divasion against Pearl River, Jones, Hands, C'o·Lm. Gulf Coast and Southwest. but also tal..c on North Divasion foes Northwe"t ltaw;unba and East MassisMppi. Elijah McDonald. who signed mat of Morton w11h Jatbun State. is expected to work at quarterback. Robbie Morse, who started last season before mjunng hts l..nee. is expected to be back. Other posstble can– didates for the quarterbacking position are Colby Amts of Newton County, DeAngelo Carter of Noxapater and Jarius Neal of Tuscaloosa, Ala. Neal played some at quar– terback last season but was moved to the defCn,ive seconda£} during spring traming and as expected to start at free safety. He will be available if needed. Lete1 Fortune, Curtis Smith and Alex West. Terrance McFadden of Ft. Lauderdale, na.. who led East Central in mshmg last season with 772 yards, is back at tailback along wtth David McCants and Desmond Graham Derrick Qualls of Forest and for– mer Philadelphia lligh School standout Du~ttn Crockett are expected to c;ee plent:r of playang time at fullback. The Warriors are expected to be more wide open offcn!>ively with no huddles. This new offense will be unveiled against Northwest. Clearing the way will be the ECCC offensive line. Javarcs Dobbins and Brad Petry will anchor the lane at U!nter. Montero Baker, Nathan Weaver and Philadelphm's Kerry Hudson will play at the otTenstve guard positions, while former Neshoba Central standout Josh Moore, Mentrcll Ledbetter, Ross Tew and former Tornado Jonathan Pickens will sec action at tackle.
