Also a proven collegiate success, Chancellor spent 19 seasons as the head coach at the University of Mississippi where he posted a 439-154 overall record (.740 winning percentage) and advanced his teams to 14 NCAA Tournaments. Chancellor's 14 NCAA appear ances were high– lighted by four Elite Eight (1985, 1986, 1989, 1992) and three Sweet Sixteen (1987, 1988, 1990) fmishes. Chancellor was named the 1992 National Coach of the Year by the Women's Basketball News Service and was also honored as the Southeastern Confer ence Coach of theYear three times <1987, 1990, 1992). Cooper retired following the 2000 season and Sheryl Swoopes, the 2000 WNBA MVP and Defensive Player of the Year, suffered a sea– son-ending knee injury prior to the start of the 2001 Houston Comets' pre-sea– son training camp. Despite these losses, Chancellor led the 2001 Comets to a 19-13 record and a spot in the 2001 WNBA Playoffs. In 2002 the Chancellor-led Comets posted a 24-8 r egu– lar season r ecord to fiiUsh in second place in the Western Conference and earned a berth in their sixth 2002WNBA playoffs. Most recently Chancellor's 2003 squad fiiUshed 20-14 and in second place in the Western Conference to advance to the WNBA Playoffs for the seventh consecutive season. Duringhis tenure with the Comets ' Chancellor has coached many talented elite athletes, including two-time U.S. Olympians Cooper (1988, 1992) and Swoopes (1996, 2000), 1992 u.s. Olympian Tammy Jackson, as well as Olympians J aneth Arcain (1992, 1996, 2000) of Brazil, Elena Shakirova (1992, 1996, 2000) of Russia and Ca tarina Pollini (1992 , 1996) of Italy and 2004

Chancellor as the U.S. Women's basketball coach earned a gold medal as his team proved themselves in the 2004 Summer Olympics. In an interview with the Winston County Journa l previous to his leaving for training to Athens, Chancellor noted confidence in the talents and abilities of the women's team. Chancellor knew the women's team could come home with the gold and they proved him right as they wrapped up the games with gold around their necks. Chancellor was also recently named as a 2005 inductee into the Mississippi's Sports Hall Fame. Chancellor is no stranger to winning gold or captU;r– ing titles. He is a four-time WNBA champwnship head coach for the Houston Comets. He piloted the United States to a gold medal a nd an unblemished 9-0 record at the 2002 FIBA World Championship in 2002.
