ECCC teams start new year with wins

The Warriors held a 40- 33 advantage at the break over Southwest, which improved to 4-9.

Rita Birden, a sophomore guard and former standout at St. Fredrick High School in Monroe, La., scored 16 points in leading EC to a 74- 57 thumping of Faulkner State saturday afternoon on the Bay Minette, Ala., campus. ECCC (W) 72, ltawamba 70 Against Itawamba, the Lady Warriors held on for a 73-70 overtime win and the Warriors cruised 93-74, sweeping the season series. Lady Warrior scorers were Chaney, 15; Bender, 11; Birden, 10; Viverette and Gray, eight each. The score was tied 64-64 at the end of regulation. The Lady Warriors led 34- 32 at halftime. ECCC (M) 93, ltawamba 74 ECCC started the season outwith a win over ltawam– ba. This time they started the year out the same way. Warrior point makers were Martin, 26; Tadlock, 13; Willis and Desmond Jones of Neshoba Central, 11 each; Hudson, nine; and Hughes, eight. East Central held a 45·31 advantage at the break. EC's womendefeated the Lady Indians 76-67 and the men won 67-63 to begin the 2003-04 campaign.
