ECCC falls to Co-Lin in division opener

By Marty Stamper staff wnter DECATUR- The Copiah– Lincoln Lady Wolves pulled·a few surprises on the Lady War– riors of East Central Commu– nity College Monday night and came away with a 66-61 win in the MACJC South Division opener for both teams. Travalyn Smith and Crystal Brown combined for 28 points inside to lead the 8-4 Lady Wolves. Smith had 18 points and Brown had 10. 'Their big Hodge. Tawon Walker cut the deficit to one with a reverse layup 20 seconds later. A steal and layup by Lewis put ECCC up 73-72, but the Warriors were unable to score over the final1:52 as they dropped to 3-9 overall and 0-1 in the division.

"We've just got to correct some mistakes and play better and get ready for Thur day (at Mississippi Gulf Coast). We don't have time to pout about it now." Co-Lin took a 35-30 lead into halitime. After four ties - the last at 49 with 11:35 to play - the Lady Wolves went down 52- 51 on a 3-pointer from ECCC's Kim Cox a minute later, then reeled off six straight points and never trailed again. Perhaps the game's biggest basket was a 3-pointer by Gloria Lewis with 1:28 to go with the shot clock running out that gave the Lady Wolves a 62-58 advantage. "With the clock running out and her going with a three, I'll take that," Hodge said. "But she made it and good players make shots like that" Lewis finished with 17 points, 15 of which came in the ~econd half.
