Loper Joins ECCC Baseball Squad Newton County High School's Bud Loper (seated center) will continue his athlet– ic career as a Diamond Warrior at East Central Community College. Loper, a 6- foot, 150-pound pitcher/infielder, batted .311 for the Diamond Cougars in 2004 with four doubles, three triples and one home run. He also scored 33 runs. He posted a 5-6 mark on the mound with a 3.34 ERA. He was named first-team All– Division 5-3A and received the Team Captain and Lowest ERA awa rds, and was tapped for membership in the .300 Club, which recognizes Cougar players whose battin g averages exceeded .300. Loper is a transfer from Newton County Academy, where he was selected All-Division 3-A his junior season.
