sport to trustees, Dr. Sutphin noted that women's soccer "is one of the fastest growing sports in the country" and is recognized by the Mississ– ippi Association of Comm– unity and Junior Colleges. He stated all Mississippi community colleges that offer men's soccer also field a women's team. Two high schools in the ECCC five-: county district - Neshoba Central and Newton County– currently field soccer teams for·women.

The new team will be coached by Kenneth Thompson, who is also in charge of the men's soccer program. Thompson said he looks forward to fielding the col– lege's first women's soccer team. "It is an exciting time here at East Central. The addition of women's soccer to the ath– letic program has caused quite a stir in the local com– munities. Already several female athletes have inquired about tryouts. This includes students from with– in the district as well as those from outside the area," Thompson said . Thompson said the recruiting process is under way and he hopes to select– the first Soccer Lady Warriors on the December 1 signing date. "I hope to sign as many as six or more first-time fresh– man athletes within the next few weeks. I also plan to sign several players from among students enrolled here at East Central.
