A team's final record doesn't always tell the entire star): A good example of that would be the 2004 East Cen· tral Community College men's soccer team. The Warriors may have finished the 2004 fall season with a 5·10·1 record, but coach Kenneth 'Phompson is more than pleased with their effort and the way they represented the school. ''We had a good team and a good group of guys,'' said Thompson. ''Ten years from nmv. somebody may look at that record and say they must not have been a very good team. But that wasn•t the case." Central would lack the scor– ing punch they needed all season. Thompson set the team up where they would play at a more patient pace. "One day I told them they needed to take more shots. We could not wait for a wide open goal every time," said Thompson. "Most of our games fmished with scores of 2-1 or 3-2- they were usu– ally very close. · "We played good defense. Only two te:.uns scored five goals on us all season. But we didn't score many goals either, and th,at hurt us." East C t 1

goals, led by David Pruitt with five. The Warriors gave up 38. And five of those came in the final game against the Jones Junior College, which beat East Central 5-l and won the division championship. East Central is the lead– ing candidate to receive the team sportsmanship award. The Wan·iors only received eight yellow cards during the season which was the lnmest in the league.
Six sophomores will be graduating: Regan Den– ham, Jose Castill, David Pruitt, Luis Araya, Ryan Stewart and Jared Weir. But Thompson has a good group coming back next year; including six starters. Return– ing will be defenders Zack Kil· patrick and Daniel Warren; wing men Micah Lanier and JasonLopez; midfielder Diego Perez, forward Kyle Vowell, stopper Taylor Nichols, Austin Herrington, Zack Join· er andTrey Whitehead. "We have a good group coming back. abd we,ll try to recruit some good fresh- men to blend in with them," said Thompson. "We will be looking for goalies, goal· makers and speed." early December. The War– riors can recruit and sign players out of the district after Jan. 15.
