After an open workout at the school, Bowden was one of five players Et'tst Central Community College signed to scholarships this past week. "Leroy really shined during the tryouls,'' ECCC coach Terry Underwood said. "He showed us what type of athlete he was. He showed he had good strength and good speed.'' Newton coach Pepper Posey said he was overwhelmed that Bowden finally got a scholarship offer: "The thing about it is when you know that somebody is good enough to play at the next level and they don't get offered, it's hard to deal with," Posey said. "We were really praying that somebody would give him a chance. And I don't think he will disappoint any– body." Since football season ended, Posey said Bowden has continued to work in the weight room to get stronger. Just a week ago, Posey said Bowden squatted 450 pounds 12 times.
