ECCC gets strong send9ff By Marty Stamper EMG sports assistant

DECATUR- For many, Thursday night's pep rally to help send the East Central Community College Lady Warriors off to the NJCAA Division I Women's National Championship Tournament in Salina, Kan., was their first chance to see the team since it won both the MACJC state and Region 23 tournaments over the last two weeks. And they were more than willing to let the Lady Warriors know how proud they are of their numerous accomplishments this season. Not only were the LadyWarriors honored, but so was former ECCC women's basketball coach Lucille Wood, who will be inducted into the NJCAAWomen's Basket– ball Hall of Fame Monday at Salina. ~n·s unreal," said ECCC president Dr. Phil utphin. "The heritage that you see on these (championship) banners is the responsibility of Lucille Wood. And for her to be inducted into the Hall of Fame is fabulous. "This started a long time ago with a person who has meant a great deal to East Central women's basketball and basketball in Mississippi - 4tlcille Wood," Sut– phin added. "Then for the team to be there to share that with her- you just don't get any better than that "I hope they have a real successful trip. It's a once-in– a-lifetime opportunity and it's a real special group of young ladies. For all the records they've achieved - winning the South Division, winning the state, and win– ning the region - it's just fabulous. There's only one more togo." The 29-2 LadyWarriors have also set a school record for wins in a season. Their current 3.1 team grade point average gives them a shot of reaching their goal of National AcademicTeam of the Year as well.
