Several area women and men have been selected to the MACJC all-state and all-Region 23 basketball teams for 2003-04.

Area men chosen all-state are South Division Freshman of the Year Milton Collins of Jones, second team all-North Division Calvin Moore and Boo Ramsey of East Mississippi, and second team all-South Division John Gray, Shedrick Kirk, and Tim Bro_omfield of Jones. Named to the women's all-South Division first team are Kristin Chaney and Lenore Gray from East Central, Natalie Jordan from Jones, and Danielle Cooper from Meridian and second teamers Kimyatta Viverette and Rita Birden of East Central.

Chaney, Gray, and Viverette were also named all-Region 23.

Gardner's team one win short

Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, Ala., lost 84-75 to Northwest Shoals Community College in the finals of the Region 22 Tournament on March 7.

Former West Lauderdale standout Kristina Gardner had three points and three rebounds as the Lady Bucs finished their season with a 23-8 mark.

For the year, Gardner averaged 5.7 points and 3.5 rebounds She had a high-scoring game of 15 points against Columbia (Tenn .) State and scored in double figures e1ght times as a freshman. For the year, she made 73.6 percent (39-of-53) of her free throws ana 32 3 ::::·~-: 5• ~: 158) of her field goal attempts. She also had 1 g ass1sts and 1· s~ea s Gardner had 13 points and seven rebounds in the Lady Bucs' 84-52 RegiO" 22 se--.:-.a win over Bevill State.
