I ECCC women roast Gulf Coast The nationally-ranked

l.kverette with 8:25 remain– ing in the half. Gulf Coast battled back to take a 33-32 lead on a 3- pointer from JoAnna \'\Tilliams with 2:21 to go before halftime. A 3-pointer from Kim– yalta Vi\'erette, a three-point play from Rita Birden, and a basket from Lenore Gray enabled ECCC to take a 40-35 lt:ad mto halftime. Kotreece Bender buried a t ty w1th just under 12 min– utes left in the game to give the Lad~ Warriors a 10-point lead at 55-45. ECCC reeled off seven more points before the Lady Bulldogs scored again to grab a 17-point advantage with 8:47 to go. · It was clear sailmg after that as EC led by as many as 23 points.

The Lady Warriors got 19 points from Viverette, 16 from Kristin Chaney, 11 from Birden, 10 from Gray, and nine from Bender. Gulf Coast got 26 points from Williams. • Gulf Coast men 99, EC 97 (OT): Courtenay Brown buried a 3-pointer from the right comer with 8.6 seconds left in overtime to give Gulf Coast the· win. EC led by as many as eight points on two occasions in the first half before taking a 41-36 lead into intermission. Gulf Coast opened the second half with a 10-0 run to go up 46-41. EC (10-14, 5-9) got 22 points apiece from ]amaal Martin and Tawon Walker, 16 from Dewayne Hughes, and 12 from Desmond Jones.

Lady . Warriors of East Central Community College closed out their b re~ular season Ma~ w1th an 85-66 Stamper win over Miss- issippi Gulf Coast Thursday at Decatur. EC improved to 23-2 over– all and 13-1 in the MAQC South Division. The next action for the division cham– pion Lady Warriors was Tuesday against I~awamba in the MAQC State Tournament at Booneville. Despite the wit\ EC fell two places to 17th in the Feb. 24 NJCAA women's Division I poll. The poll incorrectly listed EC's record as 23-3, while the Lady Warriors were 23-2 as of Tuesday's poll.
