ECCC women keep on

A pair <;>f South Division wi..m, last vveek weren't enough to move the East Central Community College women any higher in the Feb. 2 NJCAA by Women's Division I poll, but Marty they were enough to keep the Stamper Lady Warriors on top of the MACJC South Division standings. The Lady Warriors improved to 7-1 in the league and 17-2 overall. EC. \vhich ePjoys the No. 17 rankmg in the NJCAA, added another win Monday, knocking off Hinds at Utica. The Warriors split their two games last '' cek and were 8-11 overall and 3-6 in the cliyision following their win at Hinds on Monday. • EC women 66, Gulf Coast 60 (OTI: The Lady Warriors improved to 16-2 ·with a jan. 26 overtime win at Perkinston. Gulf Coast fell to 14-4. Lenore Gray was the top scorer for. ECwith 19 points. Kim Cox had 11, Rita Birden nine, Kristin Chaney seven, Kimyatta ViYerdte s1x, India Backstrom and Ebonc'e Leverette both had five, and Kotreece Bender had four. The game was knotted at 54-54 at the end of regulation. The Lady Warriors saw a 15-point lead evaporate in the sec– ond half a~ Gulf Coast tied the contest with eight seconds left in regulation.

Carmen Labat led fRCC (10-9, 4-4) with 14 points. • EC men 94, Pearl River 80: The Warriors made 23 consecutive free throws, including 10 in a row with no time coming off the clock, to whip the Wildcats Thursday in Decatur. Jamaal Martin made eight straight free throws with 1:01 remaining after PRCC coach Richard Mathis and Wildcat freshman Latry Brackins were each charged with two technical fouls and were ejected from the game. Martin scored 34 points, including six 3-pointers and 14-of-15 free throws, to lead the Warriors, who improved to 7-11 and 2-6. PRCC fell to 12-6 and S-3. EC also got 15 points from Al Willis, 14 from Tawon Walker, 10 from Dewayne Hughes, seven from Stephen Dyess, and four each from Ryan Hudson, Desmond Jones and Neil Tadlock. Jacoby Rawls led PRCC with 16. The Wildcats held a 38-31 halftime advantage.
