Jimmy Hall of Lena, a retw·ning sophomore at East Central Community College in Decatur, received a Phi Theta Kappa Mississippi/Louisiana Regional Scholarship to attend the Society's 2002 Honors Institute. Hall, a graduate of Leake Academy, is an active member of t he organization and curren tly serves as Regional President. The schol– arship, valued at $795, covers the entire cost of tuition, room and board associated with the Honors Institute. The Honors Institute. held June 24-30, was a six-day intensive examina– tion of the 2002-2004 Phi Theta Kappa Honors Study Topi c, "Dimensions and Directions of Health: Choices in the Maze."

The ftrst year's study focuses on genetics, environmental health, lifestyle choices, infec– tious diseases, aging and the mind/body connection. The sec– ond year's study explores local global, economic, psychological' spiritual, ethical and commer~ ~1al perspectives of prominent ISsues relating to health. . Phi Theta Kappa is the ofli. ctal honor society for two-year colleges,. with 1,200 chapters located m the United State U.S. territories, Canad:· Germany and Japan.
