Caleb LOOK Places in vocal Competition East Central Community College sophomore Caleb Cook of Hickory placed third o\.·erall in the Na– tional Association of Teach– ers of Singing vocal competi– tion held recently at Delta State University. Cook, a vocal performance major, competed against other sophomore men from the states' universities, four– year colleges and community colleges. Ross Price, ECCC vocal music instructor and director of the chorale, said, "We are very proud of Caleb. This competition is very prestigious and is all about singing. Students stand in front of their peers and com– pete and that's the hardest thing to do."
RECEIVES WEEMS FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP - Christo– pher Bounds, a 2002 graduate of Newton County Academy, is the first recipient of the Weems Family Scholarship to attend East Central Community College. Estab– lished in 2001, the scholarship commemorates the histori– cal.oles of the Weems family of Scott County as members of the faculty, board of trustees and student body at ECCC. Other East Central stu– dents were freshman Damein Wash and sophomore David Thome, both of Hickory; who both placed in the semi-finals; and sophomore Carl Wilson of Newton.
