ECCC's NJCAA Academic All-Americans - Eleven student-athletes at East Central Community College in Decatur have been selected NJCAA Academic All-Americans for the 2001-02 College term. Recipients of the prestigious honor must have completed three semesters of coursework and participated in at least one sport recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association. Students who earn a 3.8 grade point average or above qualify as Distinguished Academic All-Americans and those with at least a 3.6 GPA are named Academic All-Ameri<>ans. Honorees and their respective sports area include (seat– ed from left) Tori Tijerina (tennis) of Newton, Emily Casey (softball) and Sommer Averett (softball), both of Union; Brandi Bounds (tennis) of DeKalb, and Josh Chaney (football/baseball) of Little Rock, and (standing from left) Caleb May (soccer) of Philadelphia, Braden Land (soccer) of Corinth, and Jeremy Stevens (golf), Ty Anderson (tennis) and Corey Amis (baseball), all of Decatur. Not pictured is Wesley Rounsaville (soc– cer) of Philadelphia. Casey, Averett, Bounds, Chaney, Steven~, Anderson and Amis were named on the Distinguished list. The outstanding group will be featured in Juco Review, the official NJCAA publication.
