ECCC dispenses awards East Central Community

Atlanta, Georgia. She was named to the MSILA Region Phi Theta Kappa Order of the Golden Key and was named to the Phi Theta Kappa All Mississippi Academic Team. Rogers was presented the George 0. Bierkoe Distinguished Member Award and the Distinguished Regional Officer Award during the Phi Theta Kappa International Convention. Rogers is the recipient of various scholarships and was selected a fr eshman class f.avorite. During the spring musical her freshman year she received the award for best play spirit. She was selected to Who's Who Among Students in American Community/J unior Colleges and was recognized as a President's List scholar. Those nominating her wrQte, "Lana is an outstanding student who is most deserving of this honor. She has main– tained excellent grades while participating in numerous cam– pus activities. She has a won– derful attitude and goes beyond what is asked of her in her aca– demic and extra-curricular activities." Intramural; Ben Wilbanks of Carthage , Homer F. Hunter Award for Athletic Managers; and James Denson of Walnut Grove, Howard Sessums Men's Basketball. Faculty Memorial Awards presented included Brandi Harvey of Forest, Charles E. Pennington Business Technology; Allison Latham of Forest, Ruth Hull Memorial Award for Wo-He-Lo (year– book); and Jessica McMahen of Carthage, L.B. Simmons History. Various students were also recognized for being named to Who's Who Among Students in American Community and Junior Colleges and transfer scholarships were presented by The University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi State University.

College recently observed its annual "Awards Day'' program, where numerous students were. honored, insluding six who were inducted into the College's Hall of Fame, the highest honor a student can achieve at ECCC. To be considered for this honor, recipients "must demonstrate exemplary character, superior scholarship, worthy leadership and contribute to the better– ment of East Central Community College," according to Dr. Phil A. Sutphin, College president. Those selected for the pres– tigious honor for 2001-2002 mclude Leake countians Megan Morrison of Edinburg and Lana Rogers ofWalnut Grove. Morrison is a member of Warrior Corps and Phi Theta Kappa. She serves as president of the ECCC Players and has participated in various drama productions including "Crimes of the Heart," "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers," "Accommodations" and "Footloose." She was named est. Actress in a drama and received an award for best show spirit for last year's pro– ductions.
