East Central signs three in softball The East Central Convnunity College softball team has signed three plavers so far in the offseason but is still looking for more. Coach Mike Anderson had nine girls come to a tryout but was only able to sign three of the athletes. The other six liked the school but all signed to play at different schools this coming season. Though not many have signed to play, coach Anderson 1s pleased with the trio he has signed thus f,r. "They_ \'.ill probably come in an pia~' as treshman," said Anderson of the signees. "We have only seven ~ophomores returning from last yc<'~.r." Krb-.i Harris of ~ewton County lligh School, Dem~c;hia Qualls of Newton High School and Summer Richie of Lamar School are the three E layers signed to play with the ad\' \Varrior"- next "ea,.on. Harrh is the signee with the most cxpenence in fa:.t-pitch ~oftball. She gained valuable e-...perience playing for the stiong :--.:ewton County fast– pitch program. "Harris comes in with a lot of experience," said Anderson of the pitcher and middle infielder. "She will probably step right in and help us." Qualls and Richie have less expe– rience in fast-pitch :-ottball but Anderson feels the two will catch on right away and c;oon be helpful. Qualls comes in with onlv one season of fast-pitch experience at Newton High. "Qualls is an exceptional ath– lete," said Anderson of the out– fielder. "She wlll probably do some– thing quickly." Richie comes to East Central with no experience in fast-pitch softball. She played slow-pitch at Lamar School this past season. Though she 'Richie is a good athlete," said Anderson of the infielder, who will probably work at third and first. "I expect her to learn pretty quickly."
