EC: concludes Spring with win East Central Community

College concluded spring foot– ball drills by defeating East Mississippi Community College 26-13 Thursday afternoon at Warrior Stadium on the Decatur campus. The Warriors grabbed an early 7-0 lead on a six-yard scamper by running back Ramon Williams. Travares Osley kicked the PAT. After East Mississippi closed the scoring gap to 7-6, the Warriors responded with two tallies - an 85-yard fumble return by linebacker Josh Viverette and a 33-yard dash by quarterback Terrell Robinson - to take a 20-6 lead at halftime. East Central's final points came on a 17-yard run by quar– terback Kevin Stevens. Osley added the PAT. Stevens' touchdown was set up by Robinson's 53-yard gainer. The Lions scored late on a two-yard run. Terry Underwood, ECCC head coach, said he was pleased with the Warriors' effort. "The spring game was a good experience for both teams, as it provided an opportunity for players to block and tackle someone other than their team– mates for a change. We did a lot of good things, and obviously there are some areas where we need to improve. Overall, it was a great feeling to end spring

ECCC honors chapter wins top honors East Central Community College's Theta Xi Chapter of Plu Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society of the '1\vo-Year College, received top honors at the organiza– tion's Mississippi/Louisiana Regional Convention in Vicksburg. Theta Xi was presented the Most Outstanding Chapter Award and also received the Leadership Hallmark Award. Ann Burkes of Decatur, for– mer ECCC head librarian and C~apter a4visor, was recog– mzed as the Outstanding Alumna for 2002. · Sophomore Lana Rogers of Carthage was inducted into the Order of the Golden Key. In addition, the ECCC chapter was elected to serve the region as president for 2002-03. Dr. Shelby Harris and Christy Ferguson serve as Theta Xi ~dvisors.
