East Central in 1953 as a math and physics instructor. He was selected Registrar in 1962 and served in that capacity until 1984 when he was named to the Dean's position. He is also a fmmer instruc– tor at Southwest Mississippi Community College and was a teacher and coach at Union High School. A reception in honor of Mr. Rives followed the dedi– cation program and was held in the Gold Room of Mabry Memorial Cafeteria. Board Vice Chairman Jack Winstead of Lawrence said Rives is "most deserving ot this tribute." "Those of us who were his (Rives') students at East Central remember him not only as an outstanding pro– fessor but also as one who had a genuine concern for his students.
