SCOOBA - East Central Community College swept East MISSISSIPPI Community here on Thursday night in a pair of close basketball games. The Lady Warriors came away with a very close 67-61 v ctory while the Warriors used late pressure to come away with a 70-58 win over the Lions. In the women's game, the Lady Warriors tooi< comrol of the game late in the second half to go to the VICtory and improve to 4-3 on the season. "Coach (Dale) Peay has a really good ballclub," said ECCC head coach Brad Hodge. "They are very athletic and they got after us. We missed a lot of shots and kind of hung our heads and struggled for the better part of three-quarters of the game. Then we made some changes and got some easy baskets and got some flow going. We got some stops on their end and that really helped." The Lady Lions jumped out to a lead in the first half. EMCC stretched a lead out to seven points with a 9-2 run to make the score 19-12 with 8:21 left in the half. The Lady Warriors came back to tie the game with three minutes remaining in the first frame. ECCC held the lead until the final minute of the half. With 30 seconds left, however, Katrina Barr hit a three– pointer to give the Lady Lions the 30-29 lead at half. Rita Birden finished the game with 15 points for East Central while Tamekia Foley and Kimyatta Viverette added in 13. Thomas led EMCC with 14 while Barr hit for 13.

The Lions outscored the Warriors 18-8 in the early part of the half, bu~ caught .East Central too quickly. Corey Hornsby led East Central w1th 24 pomts wh ile Anthony Johnson scored 17 and Reginal Roby scored 15 to lead the Lions.
