Dr Hennington began her teachmg career at St. Jo– seph High School, then served as a graduate assis– tant in biochemistry at the Univ. of !\.1tss15sippi Medi– cal Center in Jackson. She taught at Sumner Hill Jr. High and was an adJunct in– structor at Hinds Commu– nity College and at Bel– have.t:l. She says that she uses a lot of hands-on work, bring– ing current events to drive a point home. Seeing her students excel is one of her proudest moments. During her career she has been named STAR teacher oo three occasions, received the Outstanding Teacher Award from the American Microbiology Society, was selected Outstanding High School Science Teacher by Sigma Xi Society at the University of Mississippi, received the Nat'l Re– search Service Award by the National Institute of He~lth and received th e MerCk/New Inves tigator Award for Excellence in High Blood Pressure Re– search by the American Heart Association. Recently she received a grant from the Mississippi NASA Space Grant Consor– tium to assist East Central's Theta Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa for a quality water study.She has been named an honorary mem– b~r. She received a degree in biology I chemistry and masters degree in special education from Delta Sta te University. She was awarded the Ph.D in bio– chemistry from the Univer– sity of Mississippi. She and her husband, Frank, who is employed at Grand Gulf Nuclear Plant, have two children and two grandsons.

They will be recognized at lhe annual Alumni Awards Luncheon oo Octo– ber 20 during the homecom– ing celebration.

Dr. Hennington, who has served as a biology- chcrnistry instructor at ECCC since 1998, said she was "\·cry humbled" to be named the college's Aca– denuc Instructor of the year.
