Before joining the East Central staff, Mayes served as a drafter and inspector for the Mississippi De– partment of Transportation. She has also held positions with Berivon, Inc., wh ich manufactures pins l h a l hold broken bones together, and Magnolia Steel Com– pany, which is a reinforc– ing steel fabricator. Mayes said not a day goes by when she doesn't enjoy coming to work. "Part of that has to do with the people I work with," s he added. "They influence me not only professionally, but

also personally." Mayes is a graduate of Newton High School and received the Associate of Arts degree from East Cen– tral Community College in 1980. At East Central, she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society of the two– year college, and VICA - Vocational Industrial Clubs of America. She received the bachelor of science de– gree in Technical and Occu– pational Education from the University of Southern Mjssissippi in 1999. She and her husband, Kent, who is employed at Webb Funeral Home in Newton, have one daugh– ter, Brookes, an eighth 'grader at Newton County Academy.
