Minor, a Dean's l.i'-t -holar w1th a 3.897 grade point aver- age, holds various positions of leadership on the ECCC cam- pus. She is president of Theta Xi Chnptcr of Phi Theta Kappa, the mternational honor society for two-year colleges, and is also president of ECEC, the College's environmental club. She serves as editor of the year- book - The Wo-He-Lo - and is p rcsidt>nt of the Mississ1ppi Community /Junior College Press Assocication. In addition, the Newton County High School graduate is a member of the President's Council, Mu Alpha Theta, an organization for students who excel in mathematics, and Sigma Sigma Mu Tau, whose members plan to major in med– ical fields. She also works in the College's Learning Skills Lab as a part-time ArneriCorps mem– ber, serving as a tutor for stu– dents who need special assis– tance. Her community activities include her volunteer work at The Nature Conservancy of Mississippi and at Clarke– Venable Memorial Baptist Church in Decatur, where she helped elementary-age children rectte and memorize Bible vers– es. She was also responsible for recycling efforts conducted by the College's environmental club. Coca-Cola's l Two-Year Scholars Program complements the Foundation's Scholars Program, which annually awards $!.8 million in college s~holarships to 250 outstanding h1gh school seruors. Minor earns 2yearCoke scholarship Attending East Central Community College in Decatur has become even more afford– able for an area student who was recently presented a $1000 scholarshiJ? from the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. Bridget Minor, a sophomore pre-med major and daughter of Angie and Walter Minor of Little Rock, received the cash award through th~ Foundation's new Two-Year Colleges Scholarship Program. Beginning this year, the Foundation will annually award 400 scholarships, of $1000 each, to students attend– ing higher education institu– tions granting two-year degrees. Scholarship recipients are selected through nominations provided by pre:.idents or chief executive officers from two– year colleges across the country. Students nominated must have demonstrated academic success and provided 100 hours of com– muni ty service in the past year.
