Union duo inks with ECCC Union seniors Emily Casey, seated second from left, and Sommer Averett, seated second from right, became the first players to sign fast-pitch softball scholarships with East Central Community College when they inked Wednesday afternoon- Casey was named all-division, received a Lindy CaJlahan Scholarship, was named The Meridian Star's 1999 Player of the Year, and also received a Union Planters Bank Scholarship and an ECCC Leadership Scholarship. Averett was named all-division, was chosen as a WTOK Scholar Athlete, was picked for the slow-pitch softball all-star game, and received a Clayton Blount Scholarship and an ECCC Leadership Scholarship. Also seated are Wanda Casey, far left, and Penny Averett, far right. Standing are ECCC coach Mike Anderson., Union fast-pitch coach Ricky Casey, Jimmy Averett, and Union slow-pitch coach Lee Killen.
