DECATUR- East Central Community College men's basketball coach Jay Bowen says he is happy with the way recru1ung for the 2000-2001 season has gone thus far. "We are pleased with our recruiting class," said Bowen. whose Warriors went 11-16 on the hardwood last year. "It has ended up on a very successful note." Bowen is still hot on the recruiting trail hoping to round out his team for the upcoming year. ECCC has already signed six for the men's team and five for the women's with others to come. "We feel like we have signed two good point guards and two good wing players," Bowen said . "We have gotten more athletiC and have gotten a lot deeper at each position and that was what we were looking to do." He said Victor Temple of Newton County and Leroy Murray Jr., of Scott Central would be looked at to provide immediate help running the point, while Maurice English of Union and Winfred Craig of Louisville were going to be counted on to score from the wing. Bowen said that 6-foot-5 Clint Hatch of Carthage and 6-2 Kenneth Spencer of Philadelphia should be able to provide some help on the post. Temple averaged 28 points, four rebounds, four steals and four assists a game for NCHS, while being named the district MVP for two years. Murray has been selected All-Scott County for three years and all-district for four years, while English M for 18 points a game and pulled down six boards a contest for UHS. Spencer scored 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds a game as a senior, while Craig averaged 18 points and Hatch hit for 16. l The Lady Warriors, coached by Sammy Pace, had only one sophomore on last year's squad, that being Tonya Moncrief, one of the best post players in the state. She signed to play for Illinois-Chicago next season . Looking to help plug the void she is leaving will be 6-foot Ashley Brown of Scott Central, 5-8 LaShanda Ford of Forest and 5-9 Trelisa Eichelberger of Noxapater. Pace signed a pair of Forest High School products to help shore up his guard play. Signing with ECCC were 5-5 Sophia Reed and 5-4 Pandashala Three of the five women's signees are inside players.
