ECCC Lady Warriors Beat Delta and Wallace State

The new year began m a suc– cessful note for East Central Community College's Lady Warriors who defeated both opponents m the annual ECCC hosted toumament held Janu– ary 6-i m the Brae een-Wood Physical Education Building. East Central led 26-17 at half-time. Cox was also the leading scorer against Wallace State with 20 points. Also scoring were Moncrief, 17; Lilly, 14; Porter, 10; Udicova, nine; Crockett and Norman, eight each; and Fulcher and Killen, two each. The Lady Warriors led 41-30 at the break. In men's action, the Warriors lost a 107-104 overtime decision to Delta m Friday night and rallied for a 75-72 win over Wallace onThursday. Sophomore Lamond Bowie of Morton was the leading scorer against Delta with 31 points. Other pomtmakers were Chris Webb of Neshoba Central, 14; Matthew Roebuck of Newton County Academy, 12; Chad Clemons of Philadelphia, 10; Milo Batalo of Belgrade, Yugo– slavia and Shawn Moss of L)nchburg, Vugmta, eight each; Arral Parkerson of 1 eshoba Central, se\ en; Joe Copeland of Emerson, Arkan– sas and Kent Chamblee of Leake Academy, five each; and Otha Lay and Kellis Greer of Neshoba Central, two each. The game was tied 99-99 a t the end of regulation. EC led 49-42 at intermission. In the win over Wallace State, Batalo sank two free throws with 11.6 seconds re– maining, which gave EC 1ts winning margin at 75-72. Th.~ visitors missed on a three-point attempt as time expired. The Warriors, who tralled throughout most of the game, took the lead for good late in the contest when Bowie con– verted a rare five-point play. The Morton High School prod– uct was fouled during a success– ful three-point shot, then hit both free throws. He later added another free throw and Batalo's pair ai: the line com– pleted the rally Bowie and Moss had 22 pomts each to lead the Warri– ors, who trailed 41-30 at the break. Also scoring were Copeland, nine; Roebuck and Parkerson, six each; and Clemons, Greer, Chamblee and Batalo, two each. Games this week: EC hosts Co-Lin Jan. 10 and travel to Hinds Thursday.
