ECCC getting an early start on homecoming events

DECATUR- Although Homecoming is still more than a month away, East Central Community College officials are in the midst of final preparations for the event. "Homecoming is always one of our biggest events," said Larry Hogue, vice president of alumni relations for ECCC. "That is when we try to get as many of While other reunions are welcomed, the school pushes to bring together the 10-year, 20-year, 30-year, 40-year and 50-year classes. "And it is the 50-year classes that are the most honored ," Hogue said. "This is their time and their year." The actual Homecoming is Saturday, Oct. 7, featuring a football game between ECCC and Co-Lin at 2:30p.m. The events actually begin earl ier in the week with the annual Homecoming tennis tournament, which starts on Monday, Oct. 2. and the golf tournament that is set for Decatur Country Club at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6. One of the highlights of the week is a special performance by 1950 ECCC graduate Pruitt Calvert. For years Calvert, a successf4l Louisville businessman, has been performing as "Aunt Blabby" a cantankerous·gossip. That event will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday in the Vickers Fine Arts Center. "That is going to be a lot of fun," Hogue said . "Those who have seen Aunt Blabby perform seem to always enjoy it and anyone who hasn't seen it needs to." There is no charge to the performance, but donations will be taken with the proceeds going to the building of a new recreational trail around the school's campus lake. Hogue said one of the special moments of the weekend will come on Saturday morning when ECCC president Dr. Phil Sutphin presents the class of 1950 with replica diplomas. . "They are really nice," Hogue said. "They (each member of the class of 1950) will be called up individually, just like they are actually graduating." In all 6,600 letters went out to alumni and friends announcing the 2000 Homecoming lineup. "One unique thing we are going to have this year is that a few members of the college's first graduating class (1930) will be present," he said. "We are really
