ECCC welcomes new vice president for instruction

Dr. Lavinia Sparkman was recently welcomed as the new vice president for instruction at East Central Community College in Decatur. Dr. Sparkman, who officially began her new duties on July 1, was previously employed by East Mississippi Community College where she served as a::-;;istant academic dean for the di:strict on the Mayhew campus. She formerly served in the continuing education depart– ment at Mississippi State University and is a former coun– selor for the Columbus Municipal School System and at Pearl River Elementary School. Dr. Sparkman began her career in education as an ele– mentary school teacher for the Noxubee County School System and later served at Central Academy in Macon. A graduate of Theodore (Ala.) High School, Dr. Sparkman

attended Mississippi State University where she received a bachelor's degree in elementary education and earned master's and doctoral degrees in coun– selor education. She is married to Wayno Ledford and has three grown children.
