DECATUR- The East Central Community College Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Donna Luke of Philadelphia as the school's next director of admissions during its regular monthly meeting Tuesday. Luke's hiring will become official on May 1, allowing her to work with Raymond McMullan, who will be retiring from the post he has held since June of 1986.
"This allows her two months to work with him before he retires," Dr. Phil Sutphin
told the board. "We think that is very important."

After the board agreed to hire Luke for two months, they then approved another 1-year contract. Sutphin, the two-year school's dean of instruction. will become ECCC's seventh president on July 1. Luke was one of 20 applicants for the job and one of six interviewed. Sutphin said Luke, who had worked for East Central previously as an instructor, was by far the superior candidate for the position. Sutphin told the board he would personally visit each of the county boards of supervisors to explain the school's needs and seek full funding. According to the resolutions, 2.25 mills would go for maintenance, while 1.5 mills would go toward enlargement, improvement and repairs. The tuition scales for the 2000-2001 school year were also put before the board. They had been approved at an earlier board meeting, but were officially presented on Tuesday. The only rise in tuition will be for out-of-state and out-of-country students. Those fees will climb from $710 per semester to $875. Tuition for in-state students remains the same at $500 per semester, while room remains at $380 per semester and board at $540. The board was told no changes to the fee scale were expected , but nothing could be solidified until after the current Legislative sess ion ends and the state's
