East C. dominates IGC Sophomore H-back Steve

The Warriors maintained its 15-0 lead at intermission. Both teams had opportuni– ties to score in the third quar– ter, but a penalty nullified a 64-yard touchdown run by Itawamba with 11:36 left,' and a 46-yard Hardy field goal attempt was wide right with 4:51 to play in the third. East Central's next scoring opportunity was nixed when Mitchell McKinnon's in the endzone was intercepted early in the final period. The Warriors added their final score on a three-yard run by Jamarcus Murray. Hardy added the PAT. The scoring drive was set up when Lacey McBeath recov– ered an Indian fumble on t he Itawamba 12-yard line.

Other EC ground gainers were Wansley, 14 carries for 49 yards; Ti Gamer, nine carries for 40 yards; Murray, seven attempts for 39 yards; McKin– non, t h ree runs for seven yards; and Chris Ray, one attempt for six yards. Garner, who played most of the game, was 7-of-15 for 55 yards passing. Ray caught three passes fo r 30 yards , while Omar Rheinhardt caught two for 13 ~yards and Burnside finished with 12 yards on one reception. Chris Weems averaged 35 yards on five punts. East Central travels to East Mississippi fo r a 7 p .m. matchup in Scooba. EMCC is also 1-1 after a season opening loss to Hinds and a 35-3 s lashing of Pearl River last week. All warrior football games ar e aired by WSSI (98 .3) in Carthage with veteran broad– caster Mike Goodwin.

Henley rambled for a career– high 199 yards on 26 carries and led East Central to a 22-0 win over Itawamba Thursday night in Fulton Both teams now sport 1-1 record on the young campaign. Henley was th£; maJ :>r spark in an explosive offensive attack for the Warriors, who compiled almost 400 total yards, 340 rushing and 58 passing. East Central finished with 18 first downs, 12 in the first half. The Warriors also unleashed a stingy defense, which allowed just 82 total yards and five first downs. After a scoreless first peri– od, Terrance Wansley gave EC its first score on his three-yard run 30 seconds into the second quarter. Josh Hardy booted the PAT. The Warriors padded their lead with about six minutes left before the break when Wansley again crossed the goal
