EC_CC begins search for new president

The search for a ne\\ presi– dent at East Central Community Col– lege in Decatur is officially underway follo\ving the selection of a collUTllt– tee composed of members of the College's Board of Trustees. Also serving m an advisory capacn:; Js current president Dr. Eddie M. Smith, who earher announced he plans to retire in June, 2000. Dr. Sm1th has led the two-year institution smce 1985. Qualifications for the College's seventh pres1dent include the following an earned doctorate from an accredited institution; at least five years of senior-level expenence in educatwnal adnumstration and leadership; preferable at the commu– mty college level; demonstrated com– petence m fiscal management; dem– onstrated commitment to the commu– nity college ph1losophy; demon– strated effective communication skills; familiarity with the governance and operation of community colleges m Mississippi: demonstrated know l– edge ofresource development; dem– onstrated expenence in strategic plan– ning; understanding of the accredita– tion process of the Commission on

Colleges of the Southern Association ofColleges and Schools; evidence of the ability to effectively represent the College's needs in government and m the pnvate sector; demonstrated knowledge of the use of technology m educatiOn and in educational ad– ministration; and familiarity with the College's service area. Deadline for applications is October 31, 1999. TheBoardofTrust– ees plans to name the new president at its March 2000, regular meering. Requirements ofthe application pro– cess can be reviewed by calling the Presidents Office at the College.
