New dorm EC plans dedication for new women's dorm

A dedication ceremony for Erma Lee Barber Hall, a new women's dormitory at East Central Community College in Decatw·, will be held at 3 p.m. 'fuesday, Oct. 12. The facility is named for the former ECCC Dean of Women who served the College from 1952 until her retirement in 1971. Miss Barber, who still resides in Decatur, is expected to attend the ceremony. es 128 female students and was completed at a cost of $3.1 mil– lion, Funding for the project was provided by a loan from the United States Department of Agriculture, Rural Development Division. Payment for the loan is provid– ed over a 25-year period through special tax levies as approved by the five ECCC dis– trict county boards of supervi– sors. Program participants

include Dr.l Eddie M. Smith , ECCC president; Dr. Phil A. Sutphin, dean of. instruction; Randall E. Lee, dean of stu– dents; Joe Killens, director of student life; Veronica Haynes of Louisvilie, student body association president; Ovid Vickers, retired ECCC faculty member; Wayne Barber of J ackson, a nephew of Miss Barber; and William Simpson, State .. Director, Rural Development Division, USDA. Special music will be provided ---------------- by the Ac'cents, the College's 'AT show choir, who will sing the - - - - - - - national anthem. Open house and a tour of Barber Hall will follow the pro- - - - ------ gram. A reception will also be - - - -----– held at the facility.
