McDill awarded ECCC scholarship East Central Community College sophomore baseball player Dennis McDill of Edinburg was recently awarded a scholarship by Diamond Warrior head coach J amie Clark. McDill, a 6' 2", 190-pound right– handed pitcher, was a walk-on member on last year's state championship squad. junior campaign. Coach Clark praised his most recent signee. · "Dennis has earned a scholar– ship through his hard work and success on the mound. He should play a major role in the upcom– ing season."

The Diamond Warrior head mentor said it is not uncommon for walk-ons to earn a spot on the baseball team. "Walk-ons have played a very important part of the East Central Community College baseball program. Every year we have had someone to come in and earn a scholarship, and Dennis is a great example of how hard work and determination can pay off."

The Leake Academy product saw limited action on the mound last season, as he registered approximately 15 innings of relief work. This past fall he became a member of the starting rotation and led the Warrior pitching staff with a .64 earned run average.
