E'burg's Rushing signs scholarship Danny Rushing of Edinburg recently signed a ·national letter of intent with East Central Community College after the freshman walk– on completed a successful season on the mound for the state champion Diamond Warriors. . Rushing was the winning pitcher in East Central's 15-8 victory over Gulf Coast for the state crown, as he shut down the Bulldog offense the final four innings ofhis 6 2/3 innings ofrelief. · During the regular season, Rushing pitched 21 113 innings, struck nut 19 batters, allowed seven earned runs on 1? hits a.I!d 10 walks. East Central Community College also announced the addition of Steven York and Dontay Spillman to the Warriors gridiron squad for next season. York is a 6'4", 300-pound offensive lineman who was considered one of the "Top 100" play– ers in Texas and one of the "Top 5" offensive linemen in the Southwest. Spillman, a 6'1", 180-pound running back/return specialist, was the leading scorer in Kentucky High School football last season

He rushed for 1,600 yards on 104 carries and caught 35 passes for 600 yards last sea– son. He averaged 280 yards rushing and 150 yards receiving for a 430-yard average per contest. · Spillman also scored 40 touchdowns, including nine tallies on kickoffs and punt returns last season. In recognition of his outstanding season, Spillman was selected to participate in the a n nual Kentucky/Tennessee and Kent ucky/Indiana All-Star football games.
