EC DiamondWarriors defeat Southwest CC

The East Central Community Col– lege Diamond Warriors complete(:~ a– double-header sweep of conference foe Southwest and moved the War– riors to within one game of league– leading Gulf Coast. East Central, which claimed 7-1 and 4-1 victories over the host Bears Saturday afternoon, improved to 19- 15 overall and 8-4 in South Division play. Gulf Coast's division mark now stands at 9-3 following a week– end split with Co-Lin. Freshman hurler Jason Willis of Philadelphia went the distance for EC in game one, improving his record to S-2. Willis fanned seven, walked two and allowed just four hits in the 7-1 victory. After a Southwest homer gave the Bears a 1-0 lead, East Central rallied for three runs in the sixth and took control of the division matchup. East Ce_ntral maintained 1ts 4-l advantage behind the pttching of Sophomore Chris Tullos who came in relief for Gressett in the eighth and was credited with the save. East Central faces another tough week of action, as the Diamond War– riors travel to Delta on April 7; host Co-Lin in makeup games beginnin'g at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 9; and entertain Hinds starting at 1 p.m. Friday, April 10. East Central jour– nyys to Jones on Tuesday, April 14, in competition that gets under way at 4 p.m. in Ellisville. AU games are double-headers.
