East Central announces homecoming honorees Recipients of various honors

Former ECCC athletes and supporters of the College's athletic program will also gather at the annual Warrior Club meeting. Prior to the various reunion group meetings, a ceremony is scheduled to officially dedicate "Founders' Gym." Constructed · in 1930 and still used for intra– mural and other activities, the old gym has been named in tribute to Dr. Benjamin Franklin "Frank" Hunter, James "Jim" McDonald Thames and the many other . individuals who were instru– mental in the establishment of East Central Junior College in 1928. Other activities include a cookout scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at 'furkey Creek Water Park for members of the 1957, 1958 and 1959 classes. to be presented during East Central Community College's annual Homecoming celebra– tion were recently announced by Sandra Amis of Conehatta, president of the College's Alumni Association. This year's observance, with t he theme "Celebrate in '98!" will be held Saturday, October 10, on the Decatur campus. Honorees include T.H. (Tam) Etheridge, chairman and chief executive officer of Choctaw Maid Farms, Inc: in Carthage, Alumnus of the Year; Nell Allen Rogers, planner and congres– sional liaison for the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, Alumna of the Year; Leesa Wilkinson, keyboard instructor, Academic Instructor of t he Year; a~d Conrad Germany, collision repair tech– nology instructor, Vocational– Technical Instructor of the Year. Also being r ecognized are three inductees into the College's Athletic Hall of Fame, who include Van Chancellor, head coach/general manager of the WNBA Houston Comets; Deborah Norwood Duncan, teacher/coach at Neshoba Central High School in Philadelphia; and Howard Sessums of Clinton, retired director of personnel for the Mississippi Department of Education. Reunion groups being hon– ored include members of all classes ending in "8" and the 1945-46 and 1946-47 women's basketball teams.
