Groundbreaking for ECCC Facility

0 ECATUR--Participating in groundbreaking ceremonies for Phase I con– struction of the new Srudent Sen ices. Srudent Union Building at East Central Community College in Decatur included (from left) Dr. Phil Sutphin, ECCC dean of instruction and former dean of students; Jerry Nance of Louisville, ECCC Board of Trustees secretary; Billy Nicholson ofUnion, Board vice chairman; Prentice Copeland of Philadelphia, Board chairman; Amy Gomillion of Walnut Grove, ECCC student body presi– dent; David Griffin, Mayor of Decatur; General (ret.) Denver Brackeen of Union, former ECCC dean of students; Gene Davis, ECCC director of adult and continuing education and former dean ofstudents; Dr. Eddie M. Smith, ECCC president; and Darin McDorman, MCO Construction, con– tractors for the new facility. The I4, I04 square-foot structure will house office space for Student Services personnel and is being constructed at a cost of$2,232,830.50. Funding for the much-needed facility comes from state bond sources with no indebtedness to the College or to the five dis– trict counties. When Phase [ is completed, construction is expected to begin on the second phase of the project which will house the Office of Admissions, Records and Research, College bookstore, recreational space, study areas and a food court.
