Tourneys in full· swing; Warriors sign two more

The Mississippi Jl.m.ior College AA Division Basketball Tournaments are in full swing. The finals v.ill be held tonight, with the South Division in Perkinston and the North Division in Senatobia. The East Central women will take on Hinds at 6 p.m., in the South, while the 23-4 Jones men will be facing Gulf Coast at 8 p.m. Area teams, other than the Lady Warriors, haven't fared very well in the tournaments so far. In Monday's games the East Central men were beaten by Jones County, 85-63 in the South Division while the East Mississippi women fell to Northeast, 93-72 in the North: The Warriors and the Lady Lions were both No. 7 seeds in their respec– tive Divisions. Their opponents were No. 2 seeds. Tuesday night in North Division action, the East Mississippi men lost a close one to Coahoma. The No. 6 seed Lions lost 79-77 to the No.3 seed. n Warrior gridders: Two out– of -state football players will be wearing the black and gold of East Central next year. Coach Willie Coats announced that he has signed Bo Thomas a defensive end from Georgia and Al Hunt a quarterback/punter from '- South Carolina. Thomas, 6-5, 250, was a defen- 1 sive standout at Morrow High ~ School. The team captain received county 1 player of the week honors n several occasions and during his career and was named to the

ason pound offensive lineman from Edinburg. East Central also signed Nathan Russell, a 6-0, 170-pound defensive back/punter for Forest, Shaun Walker, a 5-11, 170-pound punter/kicker from Morton and Nanih Waiya's Charles Pease, a~- 4, 255-pound offensive lineman. ECCC signed two players from Louisville; Gary Ashford, a 5-11, 300-pound offensive lineman and Steve Henley, a 6-foot, 225-pound fullback. Three South Leake players will be playing at ECCC next year. Marlo Harbey, a 6-foot, 200-pound running back, Keith Mann, a 6-1, 190-pound defensive back and Ernie Stribley, a 6-foot, 165-pound quarterback/defensive back have signed with the Warriors. n On track: The Meridian Community College track team has been plagued with injuries during the month of February. The team will practice and recuperate and try to prepare for the NJCAA Indoor National Championship in Carbondale, lll. March 1-2. All the MCC track team mem– bers have qualified for the NJCCA National Championship event
