Region 23 go t tourney tees off Tuesday .. An all out battle for the Region 23 golf title will tee off April 23 at Picayune's Millbrook Golf Course. East Central Community College will be the host for the event. The regional will feature both Division Itand Division III teams, just as the MCC Eagle Invitational did. Meridian Community College, Hiqds, North west. ltawamba, Northeast ana Gulf CoaHt will vie for the title in Division II race. MCC comeb ~--=----===--~:--~-:::;;--=-----, in as the hot team, fresh off a win in lhe Northwest Ranger Shootout. The Eagles, who had not won a ~~~~~~~~~~;~~ tournament~ during the past two year. have won three tournament this year. Pearl River, East Mississi ppi, Copiah – Lincoln, Jones and the host, ECCC will compete for t he Division ill title. Pearl River has been a tough t eam in t h e Division III ranks this ·eason with East Centr al hot on their heels. The Lions have around 30 play– ers returning from last seasons squad. 8 Confer ence r ace: Th e Meridi an Community College Eagles will host the tough Delgado baseball team for a trio of games this weekend. The games, a doubleheade r Saturd ay and a si ngle game Sunday, are vitally important in t h e race for the Miss -Lou Conference title. Mer idian checks in with a record of 33-7 and were ranked s ixth nati onally in t his week 's JUCO poll released today. The games will the last home conference games of the season for the Eagles. 8 Up for grabs: The East Central Diamond Warriors are very close to fulfilling their goal of reaching the p<)st season, but Jones County Junior College is standing intheway. \ Gulf Coast has a commanding lead in the South Division leaving ECCC and Jones to battle for sec– ond place and a berth in the Region

23 tournament. The Warriors and Bobcats are were tied with 10-5 records going in to Tuesday's action. Tuesday both teams dropped a pair of games, ECCC's games were against a non-divisional foe, Jones wasn't that fortunate. J ones lost two to Pearl River, dropping t he Bobcats divis ion record to 10-7. The teams face off in Ellisville for a p air of games next Wednesday. ECCC will host division-leading Gulf Coast for a twinbill April 27. If ECCC and Jones remain tied at the end of the season, the teams will be required to make up a game which was postponed April 14 due :to the weather. • On track: Sammy Nyamongo and Vonette Dixon turned in great performan ces for the Meridian Community College track team in the Tulane Relays held in New Orleans last weekend. Nyamongo was first in the 5000- meter run with a mark of 14:08.71. The time gives him the best time at the 5000-meter run among NJCAA athletes this season. Dixon won the 100-meter dash \vith a time of :11.61. She already had the leading time in junior col– lege in that event, but was able to lower her time.
