M odern a rt lecture planned at East Central A lecture on "Understanding Modern Art" will be presented by East Central Communi ty College a r t ins truct or Bruce Guraedy Thursday, Oct. 17, on the Decatu r campus at 7 p.m. in the 0 \ id S. Vickers Fine Arts Center. Guraedy, who also serves as chairman of t h e Division of Humanities and Fine Arts, has been a member of the ECCC faculty since 1975. H e holds bachelor's and master's degrees from the University ofSouthern Mts~i.ssippl and has completed a?ditwnal studies at Mississip– Pi State University and Missis– sippi College. The program is sponsored by the Missi ssippi H umanities Council and East Central Com– l munity College. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend the lecture and reception that fol– lows Guraedy's presentation. East Central offers landscape course

Among items of discussion include the following: selecting building sites for new homes; choosing an appropriate house plan; how to build without caus– ing drainage problems; how to choose materials for decks, pools, walks and drives; how to prune shrubs and trees; and various other topics. A new special interest course, Landscaping for the Homeowner, will be offered this fall at East Central Community College in Decatur, announced Ckne Davis, Director ofAdult and Continuing Education. Classes ar e scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on 10 successive Tuesdays beginning Oct. 8. The class location is Room 316 (draft– ing area) in the Bradford J. 'fuck– er Applied Technology Center. Johnny Thome of Decatur, a landscape architect graduate, will serve as instructor.
