State official addresses ECCC group Curt Thompson, a representative of the Miss. Employment Security Commission, recently spoke on the new Welfare Reform Bill to members of the East Central Community College District Workforce Development Council at its quarterly meeting held on the Decatur campus. During his remarks, Thompson said the comm•ssion, in conjunction with the Department of Human Services and other agencies, will take Welfare recipients and place them in mdustries in an effort to make them self-supporting and reduce the shortage of trained laborers. He added the government will subsidize a portion of the industry's cost for a designated period. Others providing remarks or presenting reports included Dr. Ofon Ray, executive director of the State Board for Community and Junior Colleges; Earl Marshall, Career Center Team Leader, who discussed activities of the Career Center staff and monthly training projects; Dr. Eddie Smith, college president; Dr. Phil Sutphin, dean of instruction; Karl Brantley of Philadelphia, plant manager of U. S. Electrical Motors and Workfon!e Council chairman; and Maudean Sanders, ECCC Tech-Prep Coordinator.
