But even more surprising was the play of the South's Ita Newble, a 6-7 forward from Gulf Coast who walked away with the Mos t Valuable Player Award. "I had to step up my game," Newble said. "Th ey had Dontae, so I wanted to show them up." Newble tallied 14 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and a steal. J ones, the All-Star slam dunk champion, had a game-high 34 points, four rebounds, four steals and one blocked shot. Philip J?rince, a 6-1 guard from East Central had seven points, two rebounds, one assist and a team-high four steals. East Mississippi's Vince Nave, a 6-foot guard from Kemper County High, scored five points but hauled in a game-high nine rebounds to go along with two assists and two steals. Marcus Tallie, a 6-7 forward from EMCC, had two rebounds and a steal.
