State contest winners

ECCC photo Tnese surgical technology students at East Central Community College recetved various honors followtng partictpatton n the annual Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) State Leadership Conference held in Jackson. Award Wtn– ers inc uded (seated, from left)· Denise Mabry and Leanne Thomas, both of Meridtan; and (standing, from left), Ella Crocker of Philadelphia, Rowena Davis of Montrose. James Johnson of Lena and Pam Smiley of Newton. Mabry, Crock– e Dav s and Johnson fintshed in the top 70 percent of students who took the National Health Care Issues exam; -omas placed third in outstanding HOSA Chapter competition, and Smiley won third place honors in the surgical tech– ogy sktlls competition. Smiley also was among Top 10 finishers in the National Health Occupatton Students of Amen– c:; Competttton held recently tn Loursville, Ky. Participating in the surgical technology skills competition, she recerved a ..,...edal, certificate and pin in recognition of her achtevements.
