Two area women vie for state title

Two area women are among contestants for the title of Miss Mississippi this week in Vicks– burg. Bethany Jinkerson, Miss East Central Mississippi, and Mary Kristina Jones, Miss Mor– ton, will be among the 37 con– testants in the 38th annual state event. This year's theme "As Time Goes By" will com– memorate the 75th anniversary of the Miss America Pageant. Three nights of preliminaries will determine who will be cho– sen for the Top 10. On Satur– day, pageant week will con– clude with the crowning of a new Miss Mississippi. Televi– sion pf'oduction will be provided this year by an independent company and will be aired on several stations throughout the state. ;-.

USM student lessons and recitals and is music minister at the Petal and Rocky Hill Church of God. An honor graduate of Eas t Central Community College, Miss Jinkerson has toured through Europe with the USM concert choir. She plays eight different instruments, began writing music at age six and competed with college senior pianists at USM 'when she was m the eighth grade. She won the competition ranking.Superi– or. A volunteer for the American Cancer Society, she is a sponsor for Special Olympics and serves as a counselor for Camp Blue– bird, a camp for cancer patients. Miss Jones, 21, is a junior at the University of Southern Mis– sissippi. She is a 1992 graduate of Forest High School. She attended the U.S. Air Force Academy for two ye~s .
