Mike HUtst and Ronda Jones are named Mr. and Miss ECCC

Sophomores \11ke Hurst of Hickory Hnd Ronda Jones of Forest hnv(' been selected Mr. and Miss East Central Com– unmit.y College following the recent campus elections. 'Hurst, a Dean's List schol– ar, serves as president of the Student Body Association and holds various other positions of leadership. He is also presedent of Theta XI Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, an inter– national honor society for com– munity and junior college stu– dents, and most recently was named to the organization's 1995 All-Mississippi Academic Second Team for Community and Junior Colleges. He was also recently inducted into the Ph_i 'Pheta Kappa's Order of the Golden Key, the organiza– tion'R highest honor for stu– dent members. In addition, Hurst is a PTK Academic All– AmC'rican nominee. The Newton County Acade– my graduate also serves ~s secretary of Mu Alpha Theta and holds membership in Alpha Alpha Epsilon, Warrior

Corp, Presidents Council and Students Against Drunk Driv– ing. An All-American Scholar, Hurst has been named to Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. For the past two seasons, he has been a member of the Warrior basketball team and served as co-captain of the 1994-95 squad. A pre-lar/political science major, Hurst plans to continue his education at Millsaps Col– lege where he has r eceived a basketball scholarship. Hurst is the son of Mike and Lucy Hurst of Hickory. Jones was elected 1994 homecoming queen and partic– ipates in a wide variety of activities. She serves as president of the Warrior Corps, an organi– zation composed of student recruiters; vice chairman of the Prsidents Council; and sec– retary for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She has been a football and basketball cheerleader the

past two seasons. Jones served as co-captain of the 1994 foot– ball cheerleading squad which won several awards at the National Cheerleading Associ– ation Collegiate Camp held last summer in Athens, Texas. Jon es is also a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Diamond Girls, ECCC Players, Fashion Squad, Election Committee and Student Absentee Appeals Committee. During her freshman year she served as class secretary and was elected a h omecoming maid. She wa s also a cast member of the musical produc– tion, "Once Upon A Mattress." A recipient of the U.S. Achievement Award in Math, Jones was recently named to Who's Who Among Students in American Junior College. The Forest High School graduate is the daughter of Mr and Mrs. Ronny Jones of For– est. She plans to continue he studies in business adminis– tration at Mississippi S t ate Universtty.
